Communications agency Newhaven has raised over £10,000 for Billy Strathdee, who plans to swim the English Channel, cycle from Dover to Grangemouth and then run to John O'Groats - all with only one leg.

More than 100 people attended the agency's fundraiser at its Old Ambulance Depot gallery space. Some of Britain's best photographers auctioned prints and there was also luxury baggage, holidays and weekend breaks up for grabs.

Strathdee is attempting the remarkable feat on behalf of PoppyScotland and the money will go towards that cause.

Organiser Gareth Howells said: "What a fantastic evening, everything went for very generous amounts. We even had a phone bidder! I'm amazed that even in a recession people could be as generous as to help raise over £10k for Billy and PoppyScotland.

"I will be thanking all the people involved in contributing personally. Special thanks must go to my sister Rhian Howells at Shore Production for making the event such a success."
