In a sign of troubled economic times greeting card giant Hallmark have introduced a range of consolation cards for those recently made unemployed.

Speaking to NPR public radio, Derek McCracken, the company’s creative director denied exploiting other people’s misery and insisted such products were a response to customer demand.

A range of six cards were first introduced in 2009 and are set to be redesigned for a 2012 refresh due to booming sales, conveying such messages as “Don't think of it as losing your job. Think of it as a time out between stupid bosses."

McCracken said: “Loss of job, like any loss, is a grieving process. And so we have to acknowledge as soon as possible what had happened and then try to support them. So that's where we kind of offer more cards on the, you'll get through this, versus dwelling on the loss of the job itself.

There are currently no plans to launch the range in the UK.
