Google boss denies ‘cooking’ search results
Google’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt, has denied rigging his firms search results to a congressional hearing in Washington – set up to establish whether Google has abused its market position.
Several US agencies and the European Commission are currently investigating the firm over claims it has fixed its results to favour its own websites and services but Schmidt said: “I can assure you we’re not cooking anything.
"Google does nothing to block access to any of the competitors and other sources of information."
Schmidt did acknowledge that Google carried a weight of responsibility in regard to its hefty market clout however, which Schmidt admitted was “in the area” of a monopoly.
Senator Michael Lee of Utah claimed Google’s two thirds market share gave it an “unnatural and extraordinary advantage” leading to a “clear and inherent conflict of interest.”
