Advertising agency CST The Gate has appointed Aviva's global brand director Luke Mugliston as its new CEO.

Mugliston was responsible for the insurance giant's high-profile rebrand from Norwich Union and its subsequent 'You are the big picture' campaign.

Before that he was UK marketing director at Fidelity International for four years. He started his career at Publicis where he became board account director.

Peter Reid, group CEO of the agency's owner Media Square, said: "We are delighted to have secured Luke’s services. He has a unique blend of financial services and broader consumer experience. He’s a natural leader and a great complement to the existing agency team."

Mugliston will take up his new post on 31 October. He said: "While, I am sad to leave Aviva, I had always planned to come back to the advertising business and this opportunity was simply too good to pass up."

CST The Gate is the result of last year's merger between The Gate and Chick Smith Trott. Its main clients include Friends Life, Royal British Legion, NS&I and Douwe Egberts.
