Sainsbury’s is the first supermarket in the UK to introduce Braille signage within its stores.

The chain has placed signage for its blind or partially sighted customers within a story in Liverpool after store manager Bethan Wilson devised the idea as a result of local organisations such as the Bradbury Fields Blinds Association based nearby.

The idea was put to chief executive of Sainsbury’s Justin King, who instructed customer experience manager Claire Ellis to work on the development of the signage with Wilson and the local associations.

The new signage will include a Braille panel at the bottom, which will allow customers with sight difficulties to find different sections in the aisles.
