Arsenal Football Club is launching a Facebook app which allows fans to design a banner to mark the team's 125th anniversary season.

The app was created with digital agency Essence. It allows supporters to choose from a variety of shapes, colours, fonts, logos and images of iconic Arsenal players to personalise their own fan banner.

Once they are happy with their banner they submit it to a gallery where other users can vote for their favourite designs. The most popular will be reproduced for real at matches at Arsenal's Emirtates Stadium.

Hal Stokes, social media director at Essence, said: "A supporter's commitment to their club is embodied in their thinking, communication and behaviour, and is a passion that is often impossible to truly reflect in marketing activity. Capitalising on the social interactivity of the medium, the app harnesses the culture of Facebook to bring supporters together around the club online as well as offline."
