AOL and Yahoo consider merger
Troubled internet giants AOL and Yahoo are said to be considering a merger after AOL chief Tim Armstrong approached Yahoo’s advisers with the idea according to reports in Bloomberg.
The financial news provider reports that Armstrong instigated the contact following Yahoo’s brutal sacking of its own chief executive, Carol Bartz, earlier this week.
It would be the second time Armstrong has mulled routes to a potential merger following a failed approach last year in conjunction with several private equity firms.
Yahoo is thought to be willing to sell itself to the “right bidder” as part of a “comprehensive strategic review” as it moves into its post-Bartz era.
