Leeds Media is to host a Media Placement Panel to discuss the issue of intern placements, with the bosses of some of the city’s highest regarded agencies set to take part, including Numiko, Intermarketing, Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger and Thomson Brand Partners.

The event, the first in a series to be held by Leeds Media, will see Nick Ramshaw, Nathan Lane, Emma Harvey, Rebakka Kill, Mike Sheedy and Julie Stead-Connor discuss their views on internships and the uncertainty that agencies have expressed to students readiness for work.

The discussion will aim to bridge the gap between students, universities and agencies and to discuss the concerns that each have in terms of students finding work within the region after graduation.

“We were interesting in taking on a placement student this year but in the end decided not to as we felt all the candidates would have required too much time to develop. I’m not sure how common that is. I’ve seen a lot of businesses take students on placement to cover menial work, which just isn’t fair,” said Emma Harvey, managing director of Numiko.

The event will take place at The Roundhouse from 6pm on Thursday 22 September. For more information see the Leeds Media website.
