STV, the Scottish Sun and Real Radio have announced a partnership that will see the three working together to produce and promote a new series: Scotland’s Greatest Album.

The programme will see viewers compiling what they believe to be Scotland’s Greatest Album, choosing their favourite three tracks from an expert panel list of 15 songs from each decade, starting with the 70s and ending with the 2000s.

The album will then be unveiled in the 5th episode.

The Sun and Real Radio will encourage listeners and readers to join in the debate, and will promote the show by covering stories that are revealed through the episodes as well as a countdown of the songs. Real Radio will also simultaneously broadcast the 15 short-listed songs from each decade, encouraging voters to go online to stv.tv to select their top three.

Alan Clements, director of contentat STV, said: “This is a unique collaboration whereby STV will produce a new five-part series that will really capture the imagination of music fans across Scotland, supported by two fantastic Scottish brands in Real Radio and the Scottish Sun. Scotland’s Greatest Album has already provoked huge debate in the production phase, so we’re delighted to be working together on what we’re confident will be a great, interactive series that’ll have everybody talking.”

Gavin Bruce, managing director of Real Radio, said: “I’m delighted Real Radio has partnered STV and The Scottish Sun on such an innovative project. Creating this brand new TV and Radio show has reminded me of the part our nation has played in popular music over the last four decades and I have no doubt that Scots, passionate and patriotic as we are, will love to debate the shortlists and have their say on what tracks should make the final twelve.”

Andy Harries, editor of the Scottish Sun, said: "There is already a huge buzz around this unique project which unites Scotland's top three media groups for the first time. Scots are famously passionate about their music and everyone will have an opinion on what should be on Scotland's greatest album. The Scottish Sun can't wait for the great debate to start, on screen, on air and in print."
