VisitScotland has launched an interactive diary in order to promote some of the country’s active pursuits.

The diary will be updated by travel writer Robin McKelvie as he travels around Scotland, walking the Great Glen Way, mountain biking at Glentress and taking part in orienteering in Oban among other activities.

The diary is a central part of the organisation’s ‘Grab a Glen’ campaign, launching as part of Active Scotland, which aims to encourage travellers to get out and about around Scotland and experience its glens and walk places.

The diary will be updated twice a week over the next three months alongside photography and video content. Users will also be encouraged to share their experiences, photographs and videos through VisitScotland’s Facebook sites.

Also on offer through the diary will be discount vouchers, maps of Scotland and a range of hints, tips and maps for travellers.

McKelvie said: “I’ve travelled to and written about almost 100 countries around the world, but I think Scotland is pretty hard to beat so I am really excited to be re-visiting my native land over the next few months. This is the year of Active Scotland and there is nowhere better to get active, with more than 800 islands, myriad mountains and hills, as well as our mighty rivers and stunning lochs. I’ll be doing everything from taking my kids out walking in the great outdoors to sampling a few drams among the glens, through to land yachting, whitewater rafting and flinging myself around a gorge so I hope people can join me as I go.”

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “In the year of Active Scotland, the ‘Grab a Glen’ campaign represents a fantastic stride forward as we look to promote Scotland as an active destination all over the world. I’m sure readers will enjoy learning about Robin’s travels around our wonderful country and will want to get out and get active themselves.”
