GMG Radio has announced that Andy Carter has been appointed group managing director, following the departure of Billy Anderson.

Carter, who before the promotion was the managing director for Smooth Radio, will now work on the strategic development of the Smooth and Real Radio brands. He will start this new role immediately.

Carter’s role will be filled by Michael McIntyre, GMG Radio’s regional sales director. He will add the duties of regional managing director to his sales role.

It was reported last month that Billy Anderson was leaving the company in order to take over Rock Radio in Scotland. He told The Drum that he intended to do something ‘radically different’ with the station.

Earlier today, GMG also announced that it would retain Clear Marketing as the creative agency for Real Radio, following a six-way-pitch.
