It is expected that the chair of the Press Compaints Commission, Lady Peta Buscombe will resign as a result of the criticism the organisation has faced over the News of the World scandal.

According to The Guardian, ‘a source familiar with the situation’ confirmed that she will step down following the criticism of the PCC over its handling of the situation.

In the wake of the revelations around the News of the World’s practices, Prime Minister David Cameron was involved in criticising the organisation, which Labour Leader Ed Milliband described as ‘a toothless poodle’.

A new organisation to regulate the press is expected to be introduced to replace the PCC as a result.
