The Economist has announced its launch of its ‘World in Figures’ app for the iPhone and iPad.

The 69p app is based on The Economist’s book of the same name and allows users to access essential statistics and data from more than 190 countries around the world.

Users can access each country’s profile individually or compare data (covering tops from commodities to tourism) from several different countries at once using the application’s comparison function, or use the trivia function to test their own knowledge and then share the results on Facebook and Twitter.

Ron Diorio, vice president of product and community development for The Economist online, said: “The 'World in Figures' application gives readers a chance to engage with one of our most popular books in a completely new and different way.

“It’s easily understandable and interactive nature makes it a highly enjoyable way for users to learn more about the world around them.”
