The KM group is making a formal submission to the Office of Fair Trading about its intention to buy seven newspapers from Northcliffe Media.

KM group, Kent’s biggest newspaper publisher is worried that there may be competition problems from buying the newspapers.

The Guardian reports that the Kent Regional News & Media of Northcliffe includes one paid-for weekly - the Isle of Thanet Gazette - and a series of hybrids (part paid-for and part freely distributed) including the Dover Express, the Folkestone Herald, the Canterbury Times, the Herne Bay and Whitstable Times, the Medway News and the East Kent Gazette.

Northcliffe bought these papers off Trinity Mirror in 2007.

It follows Northcliffe switching two local daily newspapers to a weekly print.
