Sefton Council has launched online tool ‘You Choose’ to let residents have a say in what they think should be cut from the budget.

Originally created by the London borough of Redbridge in association with YouGov and the Local Government Group, the You Choose system allows the public to see exactly what the council is spending money on and make suggestions to cut the costs.

Cllr Iain Brodie-Browne, Sefton Council cabinet member for performance, governance and commissioning, said: “We want our residents to help shape the future of their council services and give us, as councillors, a better idea of what they feel is important to them.

“We have already asked people to submit their suggestions for budget savings through our website which also tells people about how our services are prioritised and where efficiencies have already been made.

“But this new tool goes a stage further by allowing residents to tackle the incredibly difficult task of cutting millions of pounds from the budget and keeping increases to Council Tax low, while protecting vital services like schools, libraries, parks and waste collection.”
