Until now, Piers Morgan has said little about the phone hacking row. But yesterday he let rip at a woman MP who made false claims about what he had said in his book, The Insider.

Mensch claimed Morgan said this in his book The Insider. A furious Morgan said this was complete nonsense. No such thing appeared in the book which she clearly had not read. "I hope she has a copy now."

Mensch made the claims under the protection of Parliamentary privilege during the live Murdoch hearing.

Morgan's first angry rebuttal was via his Tweets.(See report by the Drum earlier).

Then it was on to live TV. Mensch talked to CNN cameras outside Parliament and refused to repeat the claims - because, she said she no longer had the protection of privilege.

Morgan who appeared on a split screen with her, with Wolf Blitzer holding the coats, accused her of lying with the claim - and being cowardly in hiding behind privilege. She clearly had not read the book which said no such thing.

All that appeared in the book , said Morgan , was a warning HE was given about the dangers of his own phone being hacked, the technique was so easy.

He said, "I have never hacked a phone and none of the stories we obtained were as a result if phone hacking."

MP Mensch had made no move last night to withdraw her claim .
