Prices of some popular apps have risen in the UK without warning – and without the same percentage rise in America.

The Telegraph reported that Apple had told developers that the App Store would be offline for a while last night, it did not say that prices would be changing.

Differently ‘tiered’ apps have been increased by different amounts: apps that were 59p yesterday are now 69p, while £9.99 apps have had the price increased to £11.99. Some tiers, such as the £2.99 tier, have had the price kept at the same level.

It has been reported that there was no price rise in America, and that app prices in Switzerland and Australia fell.

Apple said “We made some minor pricing adjustments due to changes in foreign exchange rates and local tax laws.”

While some developers are happy that the price has risen because it could lead to an increase in profits, others are annoyed they did not get notice and so all marketing material is now out of date.
