GMG stations Smooth Radio and Real Radio are to host the Blackpool Illuminations swtich on ceremony for the second-year running.

The event, which Robbie Williams headlined last year, will be broadcast live nationally on Smooth and Real Radio on 2 September.

The stations have now begun working to secure performers. Popstars who took to the stage last year included Olly Murs, Alesha Dixon and the opera singer Russell Watson.

Andy Carter, managing director of GMG Radio North West, said: "Last year’s event was quite simply incredible for the huge number of people who attended and our audiences listening-in across Smooth and Real Radio.

"We’ve been working hard over the last few months to secure some outstanding artists, details of which we’ll be releasing in the coming months live on Real Radio, Smooth Radio and through visitBlackpool.”

Last year 15,000 people watched the event in a specially set up arena. GMG claims a further 20,000 watched on big screens on Blackpool's promenade.
