Former Scottish First Minister Lord Jack McConnell has undertaken his first role as chairman of Radio Clyde 1 and 2 and Westsound Cash for Kids by announcing the award of more than £50,000 of grants to organisations which help children throughout Ayrshire, Glasgow and the West.

A total of 16 grants have been awarded to initiatives that work directly with vulnerable children. Summer grants from Cash for Kids are being distributed in response to the very real challenges that many of these children face during the summer holidays without the security and support of school.

Clyde 1 and 2 and Westsound Cash for Kids is Bauer Radio’s independently registered local charity, operated across the group’s entire portfolio of stations.

The charity’s summer grants are targeted at community groups.

Graham Bryce, managing director, Bauer Media Scotland, said: “We are delighted that our Cash for Kids charity is providing grants throughout the year whilst raising funds for many deserving causes. This is of great benefit to organisations and young people who we help and we’re proud to be lending a hand in the local area.

“Lord McConnell brings a wealth of experience to Cash for Kids. His commitment to the children of Glasgow and the West guarantees that grants are distributed to organisations which are best placed to help disadvantaged children in local communities.”
