The National Library of Scotland has begun a new marketing campaign, created by Frame, to promote its largest exhibition for 2011 exploring banned books.

The Glasgow marketing services agency has been briefed to work on promotional communications for the Banned Books Exhibition, which expects over 40,000 visitors during the summer season.

Included in the exhibition are titles such as DH Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita and Peter Wright’s Spycatcher as well as many other consider ‘unsuitable’ for the public at the time of their publication.

The exhibition also focuses on the authors and highlights the compromises and issues they dealt with having written their works.

The pitch was run by Marie Dunsmuir, head of external relations at NLS through the Scottish Government Framework.

Angus Walker, creative director of Frame commented “We’re chuffed to bits to have been appointed. This is a great brief and a fantastic exhibition from one of Scotland’s national treasures. We loved working on it and can’t wait to see all the work up in print.”

The campaign, which has now launched, will include regional press and outdoor activity running throughout the exhibition until October.
