JK Rowling has announced that Pottermore will be an 'online reading experience' which aims to be a 'safe, unique online reading experience' for fans of the Harry Potter series.

In a YouTube message on the official Pottermore site, Rowling outlined that the website, shrowded in mystery in the run up to the announcement, would be a place for readers to come and be able to interact with her stories, launching in October.

‘It will be an online reading experience unlike any other. Same story with a ‘few crucial additions’, the most important of which is you’ explained the author.

"The digital generation will be able to enjoy a safe, unique online experience based around the Harry Potter books," she continued. "Pottermore will be the place where fans of any age can share and enjoy the stories."

The site will also be the exclusive place to purchase audiobooks and for the first time e-books of the series.

Rowling also said that she would reveal information about the world of Harry Potter that she had been holding onto through the site, and that some fans would be given previews of the site ahead of its launch in October in order to 'help shape' the experience.

"Simply follow the owl" she concluded at the end of her announcement.

The Pottermore website has now gone live, allowing fans to submit questions through email.
