Creative Scotland, along with Glasgow-based design curators Panel, has launched a project to commission a series of souvenirs inspired by the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

‘Scotland Can Make It!’ will create a series of six souvenirs, designed and manufactured entirely in Scotland, that express a strong message about Scotland’s rich, dynamic and imaginative cultural landscape.

Embracing a breadth of creative practice and enabling professional collaborations between creative practitioners and manufacturing industries in Scotland, the initiative invites proposals for inter-disciplinary collaborations involving writers, musicians, visual artists and designers, with ideas and prototypes to be displayed at an exhibition in September 2012 curated and produced by Panel.

A panel of industry experts has been assembled to judge submissions, including current Turner Prize nominee Martin Boyce, leading design retailer Sheridan Coakley, Rob Young (editor-at-large, The Wire), Christina Jansen (curator, The Scottish Gallery), and Creative Scotland’s Leonie Bell (creative programmer, London 2012 and Glasgow 2014).

Glasgow design consultants Graphical House has created the identity and website for the initiative.

The submission deadline is 25 July 2011 and more information can be found at www.scotlandcanmakeit.com
