Google chief warns facial recognition database would cross the “creepy line”
Eric Schmidt, Google’s chief executive, has said that the search company is “unlikely” to introduce a facial recognition database to its repertoire of services, even though the technology to do so looks increasingly feasible.
Schmidt described the technology, which is now “surprisingly accurate” as “very concerning” believing that such a database would cross his self coined “creepy line”.
Schmidt believes such a development is inevitable however but warned governments not to meddle in a manner which may stifle company’s ability to innovate.
Speaking at Google’s ‘Big Tent’ conference Schmidt was nevertheless looking forward to the coming decade saying: “I am incredibly optimistic about what is going to be possible in the next decade, we have spent our whole career getting to this point.”
