Smooth Radio, owned by Guardian Media Group, has appointed Code Computerlove to increase its search visibility.

The resulting SEO campaign will support the station’s new website which will launch later in 2011 and aim to increase online listening figures.

Jonathan Gillespie, group commercial director for GMG Radio explained: “This will be our first foray into SEO, but as we continue to develop our online presence it becomes an increasingly important way to grow our reach, both on and offline.

“Code will work closely with the GMG Radio web and content team to plan and execute a search engine optimisation plan. We’re aiming to increase our visibility to attract new audiences and capitalise on the high number of our target audience who are already online.”

He continued: “Our website is becoming more lifestyle and content driven, and reflects our on-air output, enabling our audience to listen more, dig-deeper, get involved, share, take part in conversation and generally feel more connected with the on-air experience. It’s a valuable source of data capture and a means of building brand loyalty. A strong SEO plan will ensure that users with an interest in the content that Smooth produces are able to find the site.”

The Manchester digital agency will also develop a suite of digital campaign as well as a social media programme including bespoke Facebook apps and content around the ‘Love Live Music’ series of concerts with interactive content and competitions. Further digital campaigns to support the station’s programming and marketing activity will also be created throughout the year.

This morning it was revealed by the latest Rajar figures that digital radio listening had grown to a record high.
