Did Facebook squash protest sites to avoid trouble at the Royal wedding?
Facebook, thought to be a key player in the political unrest in the Middle East , is facing questions over why it took down 50 sites in Britain as Kate and William's big day approached.
The report on the website of students staging an occupation at University College London claimed, "There appears to be a political purge of Facebook taking place. Profiles are being deleted without warning or explanation. In the last 12 hours, Facebook has deleted around 50 sites.
"But the accounts were taken down overnight 28th/29th April just before the Royal wedding took place so sparking a raft of theories that Facebook had colluded with the authorities to prevent their pages being used to co-ordinate some sort of protest during the ceremony." The UCL account was still running on Sunday at 7 p.m., including a note of deleted accounts
