The Royal Wedding is likely to become a smokescreen for companies to try and release negative news stories while media attention is focused elsewhere, says the chief executive of membership body the PRCA.

Francis Ingham, chief executive of the PRCA said that he believed that communications professionals could use tomorrow’s media focus on the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton to release any stories that would generally create headlines within the media and impact badly upon the reputation and image companies.

“With international media attention diverted to focus on just the one story tomorrow it is more than likely that many media advisers will be advising their clients to put out any negative stories tomorrow when it is unlikely to gather much attention,” stated Ingham.

Already the Roman Catholic Church has expressed its concerns about the lack of attention surrounding the beatification of the late Pope John Paul II on 1 May due to the wedding.
