Mobile companies O2 and Vodafone are boosting their networks to avoid them becoming jammed during the Royal Wedding on Friday.

Vodafone is installing portable 3G base stations in Kate Middleton's home village of Bucklebury to meet increased demand for phone calls, text messages and online services like Facebook.

It is also planning to boost capacity in parts of Central London such as Clapham Common, where big screens will broadcast the big day to revellers.

A Vodafone spokesperson told the Telegraph: "Not only will people want to phone each other so they can meet up, but they will want to capture the event and share it with friends and family, so we expect to see a spike in demand as people upload photos to Facebook and check up on Twitter."

O2 is following suit by putting up temporary phone masts in St James' Park and Hyde Park.
