You can't be in two places at one, even if you're a Brit knocking your socks off to make it big on American TV - as Piers Morgan has just found out

The Gulf oil spill didn't do much for Piers Morgan last night. HIs CNN show marking the one-year anniversary of the disaster, drew just 77,000 viewers in the ad-friendly A25-54 demo, a new low for the three-month old show.

The previous low was Thursday, February 17 when the show drew 108,000 in that age group. In total viewers, the show came in third - also setting a new low with 354,000. “Piers Morgan Tonight,” like all interview programmes, works best when a big name guest is booked. Piers has drawn over a million with some of his big "gets". Last night's show wasn't even live: it was taped as Morgan, in his other US TV role, was at the “America’s Got Talent” auditions in Houston,Texas. The 9pm hour on CNN hit its lowest level in 10 years (63,000) last October when Larry King was still in the job. Still, says TV Newser, Morgan is up +65% in the demo and up +32% in total viewers in his first three months (Jan. 17 – April 19) compared to the final three months of King (Sept. 27 – Dec. 26).
