Bebo, the struggling social networking site, has today unveiled a redesigned homepage as the firm looks to regain lost market share.

Central to the redesign has been a desire to de-clutter screen space of unnecessary info whilst focussing on an updated news feed.

Taking its cue from Facebook’s “like” button this sees the addition of four emotion tabs below wall posts which allow friends to attribute one of four “emotion markers”; Cool, Funny, Sorry, or OMG.

A more prominent notifications menu and a new feed highlighting activity for each user has also been incorporated, augmenting recent additions to the site that include friend suggestions and video chat.

The changes come as the site seeks a return to a start up culture and welcomes on board new talent in the form of co-founder Michael Birch and Xbox co-creator Kevin Bachus.

Bebo has reported that these new features have led to an increase in traffic from 12m to 12.7m per month whilst mobile traffic has more than doubled to 1.6bn page views per month.
