Right wing American conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck has been axed by Fox News, the broadcaster which transmits his daily 5pm dose of paranoia and conspiracy.

Beck’s departure coincides with a slump in ratings for his show as viewer’s tire of the format, alongside the departure of many advertisers following a string of damaging accusations aired on the programme.

From a peak of 2.9m viewers at the start of 2010 Beck can now command only around 1.9m, a period which also saw 300 advertisers flee the format.

These remarks had prompted a boycott campaign by Beck’s opponents, pressuring advertisers into ceasing association with the firebrand.

In a statement Fox News said: “Glenn intends to transition off of his daily programme, the third highest rated in all of cable news, later this year."

It may not be the last we’ve seen or heard of the Beck however, the network added that the presenter was being lined up for future “television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms.”
