A light hearted Twitter feed which gives New Yorkers live updates on an AWOL cobra from Bronx Zoo has attracted 35,000 followers.

The deadly snake slithered from its pen on Friday and hasn’t been seen since, sparking some concern amongst residents conscious that a single bite can kill within seconds.

Fortuitously a Twitter user jokingly masquerading as the snake in question has been tweeting a series of live updates on the reptiles alleged whereabouts.

In one tweet BronxZoosCobra said: “On top of the Empire State Building! All the people look like little mice down there. Delicious little mice.”

The snakes location is listed only as “Not at the Bronx Zoo”

Zoo keepers believe the snake has secreted itself in a “non public” area of the Reptile House and have closed the area as a precaution.
