A spate of mobile applications which assist drink drivers in evading police patrols on the drive home have come to the attention US politicians who are now calling for such software to be banned.

Driver generated databases of speed traps and cameras have become increasingly popular with the growing popularity of GPS equipped smartphones, prompting an official request to Google, Apple and Blackberry to cease hosting them.
