National Geographic Channel has concocted an eye catching ploy to give their new series, How Hard Can It Be? some uplift.

Inspired by the Pixar animation Up, the team were determined to elicit how transferable movie magic is in a world bound by both physics and health and safety.

To test those bounds the station employed a team of scientists, engineers, pilots and 300 weather balloons to lift a full size home up in the air – just as the film famously depicted.

It was the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted and saw the house’s loft touch a very lofty 10,000ft in altitude before falling back down to earth.

the spectacle took place at a private airfield east of Los Angeles and will be broadcast as part of the new series when it premieres in 2012.
