Asda, DFS and Morrisons biggest spending clients in Yorkshire

Following highlights from the RAR Brand Spend Benchmark Report's findings from Scotland, the South West, the North West and the Midlands, today we publish a snapshot of its findings for Yorkshire.

The Recommended Agency Register's Brand Spend Benchmark Report looks at the spending habits of the biggest clients in Scotland, the North West, Yorkshire, the Midlands and the South West and, using the most recent full year (2009) Nielsen data figures supplied by Brad Insight, sets about analysing who was spending what and on what media.

This week we have been providing a snapshot of the key findings from each of these key regions, with an overview today of the findings for Yorkshire.

Retail store clients were undoubtedly Yorkshire’s biggest investors in marketing last year with the sector accounting for 52% of all marketing spend emanating from the region. £261m out of the region’s total of £494m was committed by retail stores including Asda, DFS and William Morrison.

Finance clients were responsible for 10% of marketing budgets originating from Yorkshire in 2009, while 9% came from both the food industry and the mail order retail industry.

5% came from the confectionary industry and 4% of the marketing budgets invested by Yorkshire-based clients came from the travel industry.

Agricultural/gardening & petcare, automotive, business & industrial, charities, clothing, drink, education & vocational, entertainment & leisure activities, gaming, government/social/political, home appliances, home improvement, household furnishings, household supplies, leisure products, luxury goods, medical, pharmaceutical, property, publishing & media and retail services sectors combined accounted for the remaining 11%.
