Dundee-based publishing company DC Thomson is to reduce its newspaper editorial team by 15 roles.

A message to all staff issued by chairman Andrew Thomson proposes scrapping 10 editorial jobs in Glasgow, four in Dundee and one in London to achieve a more sustainable balance between production and content.

Thomson also confirmed that one new role would be created in Edinburgh, which the company hopes will be filled by redeploying an affected member of staff.

Meanwhile, DC Thomson has also announced the closure of two of its titles: I’m Pregnant and Goodie Bag Mag. It is anticipated that employees across these magazines will be redeployed in other roles within the company.

Linda Holden, head of group HR, said of the organisational changes: “We appreciate that these are difficult circumstances but we have assured all staff that we will seek to minimise redundancy by managing vacancies, staff turnover, and through redeployment wherever possible. Those at risk will be given priority when applying for internal vacancies.”
