Local6 emerges as ninth bidder for Channel 6 contracts

A new bid team for Channel 6 has emerged in the form of former Channel 4 chairman Luke Johnson and Paul Jackson, former executive for ITV and BBC.

Local6 is the ninth bidder to enter the running for the new local TV channel which is being driven by culture secretary Jeremy Hunt, with yesterday being the deadline day for submissions.

Local 6 was founded by William Burdett-Coutts (pictured), and is also backed by former Scottish Television managing director Sandy Ross, based in Hammersmith.

The company’s plan is to roll out 17 local city and town stations across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Norwich, Bristol, Belfast, Cambridge, Southampton, Reading, Cardiff and Swansea to begin with.
