Malaysia Airlines has launched a new system to handle booking and check-in without leaving the companies Facebook Page.

Created alongside technology partner SITA, visitors are now able to search for flights on the MA network and make a secure booking from within the system.

The airline has added a unique function where users can view Facebook friends on the same flight or expected to be in the same destination during a selected date range. Users can then send a message to notify them of their trip plans.

A well as a check-in system a user can also select a seat for the journey, offering a chance to check to see where their friends are sitting and make sure a group can sit together, or as close as required.

The airline hasn't been slow at promoting digital initiatives in the past. In June 2010, MA built a self-service kiosk using the Apple iPad for Kuala Lumpur railway station. It also created an augmented reality service for its iPhone application to point users in the direction of deals and services.
