Deborah Copeland, the head of online PR at Brass, has become the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Copeland takes over from Carol Arthur of Northern Lights, who has reached the end of her two-year tenure.

Before joining Leeds-based Brass in 2002 (when the marketing agency was still known as Brahm), Copeland was a PR manager at Orange. She specialises in social media and online reputation management.

"PR in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire [has] faced a testing time, but now there is a real opportunity for our practitioners to take a leading role in responding to the communication challenges of the future," Copeland said.

"The Big Society agenda, social media and advancing the professional interests of our members are some of the key focuses for the Group this year and I look forward to working with my colleagues across the region.”

Other appointments to the 2011 committee include Gary Verity of Metro as chair-elect and Jo Bell of Homes and Communities Agency as secretary. Jonathan Boddy of Positive Impact remains treasurer.
