Future Publishing sets its sights on BBC Magazines

Reports in the Guardian suggest that Future Publishing has emerged as a late contender to pick up the rights to BBC Worldwide’s magazine arm.

Though no formal offer has yet been made Future are said to be actively involved in the divestment process, alongside German rivals Bauer and Hubert Burda.

Competition concerns have been raised around Bauer’s bid however as with the Radio Times added to its belt the firm, which already publishes TV Choice and Total TV Guide, would corner the listings market.

Any successful bid for the division must is likely to be around £100m and must include all titles in the package with the BBC retaining a large degree of control over its brands.
