As part of cost saving measures, Salford City Council has chosen to scrap its annual Proms in the Park event, in an effort to save £1.6 million in marketing at corporate events.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the event will be axed, libraries closed and council staff told to begin to pay for parking, while street cleaning will also be affected.

Another annual event, the Christmas ice-rink, situated at Salford Quays, which costs around £200,000, will also no longer run, having brought in only £50,000 on ticket sales.
