DC Thomson and Discovery Communications are to launch the official Animal Planet Magazine next week.

The stand alone 52-page magazine will be released on 16 February, targeting both boys and girls between the ages of seven and 10 who have a curiosity about the world and are passionate about animals, with content that will reflect the core brand values of the TV channel.

Published on a monthly basis, the magazine will be available in supermarket chains, newsagents and independent retailers.

Ian Woods, licensing director for Discovery Enterprises International, Europe, said: "We're incredibly excited that DC Thomson is launching the first Animal Planet magazine internationally. The official publication will be a highly visible and extremely powerful extension of the brand in the UK and will provide a natural home for our licensing partners to showcase their product ranges to target consumers."

John-Paul Murphy, Head of Brand Marketing at DC Thomson, added: "We're delighted to be working in partnership with Discovery International on Animal Planet magazine. We believe that the combination of DC Thomson's unique insight in children's publishing and the great appeal of Animal Planet as an entertainment brand will result in a winning combination."
