Sudanese dictator rallies supporters on Facebook
Facebook’s least friendly user, Sudanese dictator Omar al-Bashir, has announced that he is signing up to the social networking site in a bid to crush local opposition.
Bashir, eyeing the toppling of fellow tyrants in Tunisia and Egypt, is looking to pre-empt similar moves at home by getting in on the act ahead of opposition leaders.
The official Sudanese news agency reported that the leader has instructed his lackeys to ensure rural electrification efforts are sped up: “so that the younger citizens can use computers and Internet to combat opposition through social networking sites such as Facebook.”
At present Bashir is helped (or hindered) by extremely low rates of internet access amongst the general population, with only around 10% of the population being connected.
