The launch of internet TV service YouView has been delayed by six months and is now expected to roll out in early 2012.

The subscription-free service was expected to launch later this year, but has been pushed back as a result of ‘significant technological innovation’, although a beta version will be ready for the end of 2011.

Richard Halton, chief executive of YouView, said: "Our focus has always been to deliver a product to consumers that is right, but not rushed.”

He added: "Creating a truly open TV platform that will bring consumers increased choice has required significant technological innovation. Our timings for the launch reflect the scale and complexity of this project."
