The Guardian Media Group has announced that it has made the £330,000 post of Tim Brooks, the managing director of its Guardian News & Media division redundant.

GNM was the division that looked after The Guardian, The Observer and the related websites.

The company said the redundancy was made as a result of an “ongoing reshaping of the business which includes rationalisation of the management structure.”

Andrew Miller, who is chief executive of holding company GMG, will take over responsibility for the national newspapers when Brooks leaves in March.

He said, “I would like to thank Tim for everything he has done at GNM. He has played a crucial role in the Guardian’s ongoing digital transformation.”

Brooks joined the company in 2006 from IPC Ignite and last year was responsible for implementing editorial and commercial job cuts in response to the advertising recession and structural changes in the business.

He was reported as saying, “The best aspect of my work here has been the chance to work with the extraordinarily gifted and committed people at GNM.”
