Visit Birmingham campaign claims three million visitors

Visit Birmingham claims its festive marketing campaign helped drive more than three million visitors to the city over Christmas.

The tourism agency ran the ‘It’s got to be a Birmingham Christmas’ campaign alongside train operator London Midland. It included marketing, PR, online and advertising activity.

Reader competitions, YouTube content and an interactive viral were also developed, with the website attracting 265,000 views and the competition resulting in 28,764 entries.

Meanwile a ‘Ho Ho Ho Express’ game was downloaded over 70,000 times and Christmas films attracted over 10,000 views.

It is also claimed that over £768,000 worth of media coverage was generated, with 77 articles appearing in international and regional press.

Emma Gray, director of marketing services for Marketing Birmingham, said: “The campaign was designed to capture the magic of the festive season and showcase the unique Christmas experience Birmingham offers.

“The campaign was designed to drive people to the website, visitbirmingham.com, where they could get an online insight into an energetic, thriving and exciting city before experiencing it in person.”
