Facebook has now launched its Deals rewards service in the UK, with Starbucks, Debenhams and Argos among the first companies signed up to offer discounts.

From today users who 'check in' to shops and attractions using the Places feature on Facebook's mobile phone apps will be able to claim discounts and special offers from UK brands.

The service effectively rewards Facebook users for visiting participating brands and then telling their friends they are there by pressing the check in button.

Starbucks will give away 30,000 cups of coffee through Deals today while Argos will donate £1 to the Teenage Cancer Trust for the first 10,000 customers that check in at its stores this week.

Facebook's mobile users will also be able to find discounts from Debenhams, Mazda, O2, Benetton and YO! Sushi.

Fans of the muscian Usher who check in to his gigs at the O2 Arena this week will get 20% off his album and a free remix from the merchandise stall.

Joanna Shields, VP EMEA, Facebook, said: “We all love a bargain so whether you’re on the lookout for a special offer at your favourite restaurant or tips from a fashionista friend about a discount on shoes in a department store, Facebook Deals will help you find it."
