Every fortnight The Drum magazine keeps tabs on who has been hired by who. Here we find out more about new starts at HTPR, Weber Shandwick, Tomorrow People, IAS B2B and Fifth Ring.

JAMES WALTERS, ACCOUNT DIRECTOR, TOMORROW PEOPLE

1. The fact that the business has been built over the last 10 years through word of mouth recommendation and their portfolio was also very strong. 2. Prodrive, the company behind the Subaru World Rally Team. 3. Jordan Formula 1. 4. Always looking for the next challenge my ultimate goal was to run my own business and in 2008 I joined Tomorrow People buying 50% of the company. 5. Hasta la vista, baby. 6. Chutney and Malaysian Assam Laksa (Noodles). 7. Creation of the Special Operations Executive.

JORDAN HARKINS, SENIOR PR ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE, IAS B2B

1. The opportunity to enhance my B2B social media PR knowledge and skills. I knew IAS was continually winning work in this area with major companies and it is of great interest to me. Also, working on a completely new client base across a wide range of industries, as I previously specialised in the energy sector. 2. I worked at Fifth Ring in Aberdeen. 3. Working in the Grampian Police media office, following a successful university placement. 4. The IAS website. I had been down to the company’s office before so thought I’d check the website and there was a suitable vacancy. 5. “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist” by Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects. Always makes me think that the Devil must have an exceptional PR company. 6. Rare fillet steak with peppercorn sauce and a baked potato. 7. Glasgow Celtic’s 1967 European Cup Win over Inter Milan in Lisbon. Being a massive Celtic fan, I’m struggling to think of anything more historic.

JAYNE CRAIB, SENIOR CONSULTANT, FIFTH RING

1. I was attracted to the position because the job covers strategy and message development, and brand management which are the areas of marketing I am particularly interested in. The role also includes workshop facilitation which I really enjoy and working for an agency provides the challenge of delivering various projects for different clients. The Fifth Ring vision also appealed to me. Providing integrated communications solutions to the energy industry – I felt this was unique amongst the agencies out there. This strong positioning, backed up by their locations in the main energy centres around the globe, attracted me to the agency. 2. I worked for a sales and marketing agency in Aberdeen called Sales Evolution. 3. My first industry job was as Communications Manager for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. 4. Through a recruitment agency. 5. “Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.” – John Keating (Robin Williams) in Dead Poets Society. 6. Chilli Cheese burger and chips. 7. The introduction of woman’s suffrage in the UK.

GARRY BURTON, ARTWORKER, IAS B2B

1. IAS are a forward thinking company that invest heavily in their staff. They have a strong learning culture which allows everyone to develop and improve – which promotes a healthy working environment. It’s a winning combination! 2. E-Graphics, Manchester – Part of the TBWA Network. 3. I was an in-house designer at an art college in Carlisle. A unique opportunity to extend my student existence but with a salary. 4. It found me. 5. Scarecrow: I haven’t got a brain... only straw. Dorothy: How can you talk if you haven’t got a brain? Scarecrow: I don’t know… But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking… don’t they? – The Wizard of Oz. 6. I’d probably go for an ‘all you can eat’ buffet and take forever to eat it. 7. I’d like to have been present at the ‘feeding of the 5,000’ – in my unleavened bread burger van.

EDWARD BLACK, SENIOR ACCOUNT MANAGER, WEBER SHANDWICK

1. WS has a first class reputation. I saw the post as the ideal stage for my media experience. 2. London Evening Standard. 3. Media consultant for Monument PR Agency in London. 4. As rewarding as it is challenging. I’m lucky to be part of a great team. 5. “We’re bona fide... we’re not from London.” Withnail and I. 6. Roast chicken, bread sauce, all the trimmings with decent bottle of Bordeaux. 7. Headingley 1981. Botham defying the odds against the Aussies on the cricket field.

Through Pitch recruitment agency. 5. “...Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.” (Gladiator). 6. Home-cooked roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. 7. The first moon landing in 1969.

SIMON PARTINGTON, DIGITAL EXECUTIVE, HTPR

1. I’ve long been passionate about digital and online engagement so this role suited me down to the ground. Helping clients to understand how their customers communicate online is a great job. 2. Kinetic PR, a boutique consultancy based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. 3. Trainee Account Exec for Willoughby PR. 4. Through Blueskies recruitment – thanks Narissa! 5. “The truth hurts. Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with a seat missing, but it hurts.” Leslie Neilson, Naked Gun 2 ½. 6. BBQ ribs & salty chips, followed by profiteroles. Easy. 7.
