The announcement that football clubs in the Scottish Premier League has agreed to restructure the league to include just 10 teams in the top flight will lead to a stronger product within Scottish football claims sports marketer Patrick Kavanagh.

In his blog, entitled ‘And then there were 10’, Kavanagh says that the decision to decrease the number of teams in Scottish football’s top-flight from 12 to 10 could be ‘game changing’ for football north-of-the-border, and also believes that greater funds from future TV deals will be distributed amongst the teams.

“It is my belief that the increase of revenue to smaller clubs and the subsequent increase in the ability to compete and retain players will lead to increased attendance,” wrote Kavanagh.

He continued to highlight the relationship between the Scottish football authorities and the communities, believing that this needs to be developed.
