Frankie Boyle, the irreverent host of Channel 4 comedy series Tramadol Nights, may be the subject of an ongoing Ofcom investigation – but that hasn’t stopped the channel commissioning the star to produce a new show.

Boyle provoked glamour model Katie Price into making an official complaint after joking: “Jordan and Peter Andre are still fighting each other over custody of Harvey - eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him.”

The affair hasn’t dented Boyle’s career prospects however with the edgy star set to return to our screens, although it is expected Tramadol Nights itself will be discontinued.

In addition to slagging off disabled children Boyle used the platform of his first solo series to target his unique brand of shock humour at black and Asian minorities, rape victims and Aids.

This proved a turn off for some viewers however, with the audience dwindling to just 400,000 an episode and the departure of big name advertisers including Nestle and L’Oreal.
