Bristol based street artist Banksy is to be unmasked on eBay, according to “jaybuysthings”, an entrepreneurial American who claims to have unmasked the artist after tracking down his tax records.

Bidding started at $3,000 for the unconventional item but following 38 bids it is now just one dollar short of a million.

Banksy’s real world title will be handed over to the winning bidder at some point between Jan 21 and Jan 27, according to the cheeky seller

No returns are accepted on the offer, which closes in 29 hours.

The seller wrote: “If you win this auction I will mail you a piece of paper revealing the true identity of "Banksy".

“I have uncovered his identity by matching up the prices of his sold pieces to corresponding tax records. I will reveal no more details.

“The winner of this auction is the only person I will ever share this information with. The piece of paper will say his name, nothing more.

“I give you 100% assurance that it is most certainly the full name of the street artist known as "Banksy".

“Ebay previously ended this auction because I was selling something that was not "tangible. It is now tangible.”

In July 2008, The Mail on Sunday claimed that Banksy was former public school boy Robin Gunningham.
